Net Nanny 5 has 25 new and improved features, including the ability to control public instant messaging -- specifically, prohibit AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger on a computer of the owner's choice. Also in the new version is the ability to control file sharing from peer-to-peer (P2P) clients like KaZaA, and prohibit access to online games.

The new Net Nanny also has the ability to block pop-up advertising, and has improved its filtering and blocking effectiveness by combining both lists and keyword filtering.

One big improvement in the software is that it gives owners the ability to invisibly monitor Internet activity. With this, and the ability to block IM, file sharing and online games, owners can allow users to surf with less supervision.

Net Nanny 5 allows full access to view, enhance or change our published URL lists and restricted word lists. Net Nanny provides more robust security by working whenever a browser is launched and regardless of which ISP, search engine or browser is used, company officials said.

Net Nanny 5 is a 32-bit application, and is compatible with Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows XP. The product includes 30 days support and automated or on-demand list updates, and lists at $39.95. The product is also available via electronic download.
