Ejabberd 2.0.0 Offers More Than 200 Improvements

Process-one recently announced version 2.0.0 of ejabberd, a release the company said has taken more than one and a half years to develop. Ejabberd is a high-performance instant messaging server that uses the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) for real-time communications and the transfer of presence and status information between users. According to Process-one, ejabberd 2.0.0 is a major new version that adds new features, performance and scalability improvements as well architectural changes. The new version, which is is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL v2, contains over 200 improvements and can be downloaded from ejabberd Web site.

Mozilla Considers IM In Thunderbird 3

The Mozilla Foundation has established Mozilla Messaging Inc., the non-profit foundation's "mail focused" subsidiary. Mozilla Messaging will concentrate its efforts on developing Thunderbird 3, a free, open source e-mail application that will offer integrated calendaring, better search and other enhancements to Thunderbird. Industry reports also suggest that an IM product will be integrated into Thunderbird 3 development.

OYCO  Offers Unified Communications

Canadian-based OYCO has launched a Web-based unified communications product that consolidates multiple communications media including e-mail, SMS messaging, instant messaging, VoIP and video chat through a proprietary interface. Users can access Oyco with any Internet-ready computer or cell phone. Oyco is available for a monthly subscription fee of $4.95, or $58 yearly.

Palm Centro Smartphone from AT&T Launched

AT&T and Palm have teamed up to release the Palm Centro from AT&T, a new cross-over smartphone device that offers consumers voice, text messaging, instant messaging, e-mail and Web access. Available starting at a retail price of $99.99, the Centro offers a color touch-screen and full QWERTY keyboard with one-touch controls to manage the built-in speakerphone, conference calling, text messaging and Bluetooth connectivity. The Centro text-messaging application will also display text and multimedia messages in Palm’s chat-style view, like PC-based instant messaging. Additionally the device also launches with several AT&T services including XM Radio Mobile, Push to Talk and MusicID.

T-Mobile Announces 2008 Services For European Countries

This past week T-Mobile announced plans to boost consumer services throughout 2008. Starting in March, the company will partner with Yahoo to offer mobile search and will also expand partnerships for its social web services by cooperating with communities such as YouTube, MySpace, Flickr and bebo. T-Mobile also says the company will launch mobile instant messaging services in leading European markets, taking advantage of partnerships with providers of Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and Yahoo! Messenger. T-Mobile also plans to reduce roaming charges for data usage in Europe, and will implement a uniform roaming charge for data connections.

OZ Services Denmark Through TDC Network

Last week OZ launched its Mobile IM Solution on the TDC A/S mobile network. Subscribers will be able to easily access widely popular IM services on their mobile devices, and TDC customers can take advantage of access to the Windows Live Instant Messaging service on their mobile phones. With the OZ Mobile IM Solution, mobile operators can offer their subscribers access to IM services from AOL, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo!.

St. Bernard Announces iPrism IM Filter

St. Bernard has launched iPrism Instant Messaging Filter, the company's first IM filtering solution derived from a hybrid security platform. iPrism IM Filter supports, monitors and filters employee use of major IM protocols, enabling content filtering and file transfer blocking to enforce corporate Acceptable Usage Policies (AUPs). It also features the ability to customize notifications, block file transfers, filter content, and provides network anti-virus protection from viruses via IM traffic.

St. Bernard iPrism IM Filter will be available in March. The company will also release iPrism Web Filter 6.0 with built-in anti-virus at the same time. Existing iPrism Web Filter customers can upgrade at no cost. Pricing for all iPrism solutions includes a one-time hardware cost and a one-, two- or three-year subscription fee based on the number of users.
